HOW POSITIVISM AFFECT OUR LIVES


For me at the beginning it was impossible. I realized that 95% of the day I am angry, sad, mad at life and full of negative thoughts.
Secondly I realized how irritation it is every single minute to try to switch. I gave up multiple times until one day I decided to be patient, persistent and really try. It took me two months to reduce the negativity from 95% to 75% and I realized the benefits of being positive. See, there is much more happening in our body, not only our mind, if we keep up with the high (happy) vibration.
So here are some facts that really shocking but in a good way.
Stress and how we better cope with it
Thinking positive thoughts is not always an easy thing and stressful situations will arise no matter how much you try to stay away from them. When you are a positive thinker, you can cope with these stress factors much better and more effectively compared to the pessimists. While pessimists tend to take problems as something that they cannot change, optimists will more likely come up with an action plan and call for advice and assistance from others for the issue to be resolved.
What I do when I am stressed out? I breathe deeply. I relax and let my brain soak deep into the situation happening at that very same moment. Have you ever regret the things you said or did when you were angry and stressed out? I did? That is why when you step back, sit and wait your brain calms and you feel confident and "sober" again. After anxiety is gone you can think straight and never regret the outcome. After all situations like this makes us stronger.
Strengthen your immune system with optimism
It has been recently discovered that a person's mind can have a powerful impact on one's body. If there is one area which can be greatly influenced by your attitudes and thoughts, that would be your immunity. Based on one study, when negative emotions are activated in the brain, a person's immune response to flu vaccine tends to be weaker. It was discovered that people who are positive about a crucial and particular area of their lives, like how they perform at work, showed a much stronger immune response as compared to the ones who nurse negative thoughts regarding the situation.
A positive mind will not just improve your immunity and ability to cope with stress. At the same time, this will affect your entire well-being. Experts associated several health benefits with optimism, which include less depression, reduced chances of death caused by cardiovascular issues and increased lifespan. They do not fall apart when stress comes their way and instead, they carry on, eventually overcoming the adversity. It is no longer surprising that flexibility is greatly affected by positive thinking. As mentioned earlier, optimists look for ways on how to fix an issue when faced with a challenge.
They do not give up hope and instead, they marshal the available resources and never have any qualms of asking for others' help.
Sticking to a positive mindset is very important because with positive thoughts you will be able to create the path that you want. You won't be afraid of stepping out of your comfort zone and taking risks. You won't be imprisoned with thoughts of the past or worries about the future. And most of all, you will have faith in yourself. Because you are one talented, incredible, one of a kind human being. You are capable of everything you wish for.

THE ELEPHANT MINDSET




One guy was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a rope tied to their legs. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

"Well", trainer said, "when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and at the age, its enough to hold them, as they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. they believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free." He was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn't, they were stuck right where they were. Their powerful and gigantic creature has limited its present abilities by the limitations of its past.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life holding onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? how many of us refuse to attempt something new and challenging because of our so called MINDSET?

Let us get right into the heart of this matter. What is self talk? Good question.
It is basically about you having a silent, inner talk, or dialogue with yourself. What is your own definition here, beloved reader?
It is about you, your mindset, your attitude, your choice, your fate. Do not accept everything and anything the world throws at you.
The words that come to my mind as I write this piece are: silent, inner, dialogue, repeat, conversation, positive, negative, progress, regress, pains, gains, etc.
You see, there are many distractions and negativities in our world today.
Modern life has the good, the bad and the ugly. Every person you meet daily is either your student or teacher.
So, we need to repeatedly talk with ourselves, to remain focus, not easily distracted, and be positive in our thought, word and deed.
THE PAINS
The pains of self talk come when we do not shield our objective and subconscious minds from distractions and negativities, coming through to us from the outside world.
When a friend says, 'You Cannot Make It', you can decide to accept or reject the statement. You have a choice, free will. We all have, you know.
If you accept this statement of your friend, it influences your mind negatively and stops you from making positive decisions that will lead to your progress in life.
Your friend now decides your life, your destiny, your fate. But he or she is not you God, except you have made the person one, or your sustainer. Bad copy
Daily, the media has a duty of bombarding all of us with news reports on violence, bloodbath, injustice, murder, whatever. As a journalist, I am guilty of this.
Also, there are journalists out there who write positive reports that help to bring about peace and progress in our world. The two sides of journalism.
THE GAINS
We should be positive and constructive in our self talks. If you reject your friend's 'You Cannot Make It' statement, knowing full well that talk is cheap, you will self talk yourself out of the mental trap the person has set for you.
Our inner, silent dialogue helps to keep us focus, not easily distracted, positive in our outlook, peaceful, progressive, and forward looking.
Yes, nobody on this earth plane can be hundred percent positive or negative. Our minds, especially when not trained fluctuate in seconds.
But, we must train ourselves to continuously self talk ourselves in order to remain focus, positive and progressive, despite what the outside world looks like.

There are certain bad habits that get all the attention. Look around, and you'll see many warnings against smoking, overeating, binge watching TV, or drinking to excess. But there is one particularly nasty tendency millions of us share that doesn't get a fraction of the attention it deserves - the habit of procrastinating on our most important tasks.
It's easy to put off until tomorrow what we need to finish today. Unfortunately, that tends to leave you farther and farther behind on your work, and paints you as either inconsiderate of other people's time, or unable to manage your own life.
Study the people who have the most success in this world, and you'll find that they inevitably tend to be very punctual. They finish their work ahead of time, and never put off important tasks. And when it comes to being where they're supposed to be, they know that keeping to routines and schedules is important for maintaining control over their time, and will go out of their way to stick to their plans.
That's a big contrast to the way most people manage their schedules, of course, but it doesn't have to be. Here are three steps you can take today to break your procrastination habit...
Step #1: Recognize the Psychological Causes of Procrastination
Psychologically speaking, there are a lot of reasons people procrastinate. But a few stand out as being the most prominent.
First, it's easier for your subconscious mind to relax than it is to actively chase your conscious goals. Staying still or goofing off feels pleasurable and rewarding right now, whereas putting yourself through the mental effort of an uncomfortable activity doesn't provide an instant payoff. So certain parts of your brain are always going to want to pull you back to bed, onto the couch, or over to Facebook if you don't have good habits.
Another reason people tend to procrastinate so much is that they simply aren't motivated by the goals in front of them. When you aren't personally excited to achieve something, your subconscious will stop you from acting upon it. Your rational brain may know that your boss wants that report by the end of the day, but it doesn't feel urgent to you, which means it will take a lot of willpower to get moving.
And finally, people with low self-esteem tend to be the biggest procrastinators of all. They may feel afraid of success, or as if they don't deserve it. And so they self-sabotage their own efforts by putting things off until the last minute, missing deadlines, and making it impossible to do their best work.
Step #2: Face the Problem Head On
Regardless of which of these issues stops you from showing up on time or handling important tasks when you should, the best way to beat procrastination is to tackle the problem head-on with a few clear strategies.
The first is to simply make it harder to put things off. A classic example of this would be the person who puts their alarm clock in another room. In order to turn it off, they have to get out of bed, walk somewhere else, and press a button. By that time, they are far less inclined to hit the snooze button and do it all over again. That's a simple illustration, but there are probably dozens of ways you can remove distractions in your life and get things done faster.
You could also let others know that you're trying to beat the procrastination habit. Encourage them to acknowledge it when you're late, or make a pact with them that you'll set aside a few dollars every time you miss a deadline or put something off. That kind of simple punishment is enough to create a sense of accountability and get you thinking about your habits.
Step #3: Let the New Habit Take Hold
Don't expect you'll make the decision to stop procrastinating and be able to change your behavior in an instant. As with all habits, procrastination is something that is deeply ingrained at a personal and emotional level. You may have a few slip-ups, but if you are willing to acknowledge the problem and take steps to fix it, rest assured that you'll adjust over time.
Procrastination harms your productivity, your self-esteem, and your standing with others. But once you get in the habit of being proactive, showing up on time, and refusing to put things off when you could finish them right away, you'll start to feel more effective and empowered. Then the thought of not getting things done will start to feel strange to you.
You might be the kind of person who has put things off until the last minute your whole life, constantly running late from one task, meeting, or appointment to the next. Now is the perfect time to make a change. Don't put this improvement off until later - you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel, and how much more seriously others will take you once you become the kind of person who doesn't procrastinate.

GROWTH MINDSET

You may well have heard the terms a ‘Growth’ and ‘Fixed’ Mindset which have been attributed to the work and research of Stanford University psychologist Dr Carol Dweck. In the last couple of years, they have been popularised with the abundance of neuroplasticity evidence supporting them.
In short summary from my learning, here are a few of the characteristics of a person with a Growth and Fixed Mindset. To assess where you naturally fit on the Growth-Fixed mindset spectrum try this short quiz.
Growth Mindset to Fixed Mindset
  • Lover of learning - Likes to look good
  • Embraces challenges - Stays in comfort zone
  • Intelligence can grow - Intelligence is innate
  • Talents and abilities can be learnt through effort - Talents and abilities are set

So are we born with a Growth or a Fixed Mindset which is then set in stone?
The good news is no, Carol’s work supports a Fixed-Growth mindset continuum which we fluctuate along. Through practice and being mindful we can choose to take a more Growth Minded approach to life.
One thing I found interesting from a recent seminar I attended at the Golden Door Health Retreat is that we may have a Growth Mindset in some areas of our lives and not others. For instance, when the group were asked who can’t sing, there were quite a numbers of hands that went up. Upon then asking about other things like dancing, writing, drawing, mathematical problems, public speaking, everyone had a Fixed Mindset belief about something they ‘couldn’t do’. To help challenge this, the next evening a lady called Lulu ran a session called the ‘Power of Sound’ and had everyone singing - people were inspired.
Growth Mindset Examples
We sometimes look at masters of a talent like an elite golfer, yoga teacher or public speaker and think why can’t we be like that? Almost instantly wishing it was a natural ability. The truth is we can but it takes effort and 1000’s of hours of practice. Our seminar facilitator Justin Robinson shared people’s true potential is unknown and it’s impossible to foresee what can be accomplished with years of passion, toil and training.
In Justin’s seminar, we exchanged Growth Mindset stories reflecting on the question ‘What is an area you / another had low performance in that then dramatically improved?’. The example that came to me was ocean swimming. When my husband Owain and I immigrated to Australia 5 and a half years ago, I could barely swim freestyle and Owain would describe himself as very average. Through effort and focus we persisted and he is now a competitive age group swimmer having recently won his age-group at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships and I managed to swim 3.8km at Ironman Port Macquarie in 2014 comfortably. In the words of Ironman ‘Anything is possible’ and Justin ‘Be prepared to be surprised.’

Adopting a Growth Mindset in Education and Corporations
Developing a Growth Mindset may be the new black like mindfulness last year, yet I feel like mindfulness it’s a trend well worth embracing for the long term. I’m inspired to see many school and organisations facilitating the fostering of a Growth Mindset.
The school my sister teaches at in the UK is one of these. She shared one of her favourite classroom mantras for children is “You don’t know the answer yet”. Justin passed on an anecdote from Carol Dweck’s school research which I loved. If a child gets 20/20 in a test the response was “I’m sorry I didn’t give you the opportunity to learn anything.”
Many organisations including Microsoft are looking to implement a Growth Mindset in their culture and I’m excited to see what cultures are like when those learning this approach in school enter the workforce.
Some tips to kickstart 2018 with a Growth Mindset:
  • Try something new (like brushing your teeth with the opposite hand) and repeat it everyday for a month - you may be surprised by the progression
  • Share Growth Mindset stories with family, friends and colleagues
  • If you’re a left brain thinker look into the neuroplasticity behind this - a good starting point Justin recommended is Dr Norman Doidge - The Brain that Changes Itself
  • When learning something new think ‘I don’t know the answer... Yet’
  • Try praising others for their effort versus saying an absolute like ‘you are smart’
